Justice Maryland is organizing a Rally/Lie-In in War Memorial Plaza on Sunday, October 28, 2007. This major event will be to dramatize the need for community action to stop the escalating murders that are occurring in Baltimore.
It has been said that “apathy, alienation and cynicism have taken root” in our community – But we believe that these weeds can be removed before they spread further…
It is time for a collective voice to rise up and unify all our communities. It is time that we really see what the loss of 300 citizen’s looks like…it is time for each of us to be engaged for if we fail to act now, we will continue to pay the ultimate price.
The Event:
We cannot imagine what 300 lost community members looks like – we cannot visualize the enormity of that number. We cannot put our arms around this staggering loss and can therefore not take ownership for its resolution.
This event will enable us to see, feel and experience the magnitude of the crisis facing our community.
Moving forward from this event, we are making an ask of the attendees. We are passing out and collecting “action cards” that will be filled out. After the event, we will be breaking out these cards by district and Justice Maryland will facilitate a community meeting in each area. The follow-up to this event is to identify and encourage community leadership, to promote the organizations/individuals etc that are already working in these communities, and to encourage citizen dialog and action. We will be issuing a report at key intervals after the event.
